Lionel Messi will return to the European Club of the Year awards as a man of the match at the Allianz Riviera on Friday when Barcelona take on Paris Saint-Germain, but he’s already making predictions as to what the two will do that night in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League. It will be PSG’s first Champions League appearance since 1994, and one where they face Barcelona in a head-to-head first-leg semi-final.
Messi told CNN that he thinks PSG is the “ideal” place to win their first-ever Champions League title after falling to the Spanish juggernaut on this continent in 2015. “They’re in the final again. They’re a good side and they have a great manager,” he said.
He also seemed to have more knowledge about the history of PSG. “I watched one or two of their games last year,” he said, “they played a great game against Manchester City.”
He also added: “I hope that the team will work really hard and give their all. We know that they are a great side. I don’t need to repeat what happened the last few years. We hope to go all the way and win the Champions League.”
